What's your word?

In my recent read, Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, there was an interesting passage about defining things. One of the Italian characters said that you could define a city and most of its inhabitants by one word. For example:

  • New York City: Achieve

  • Los Angeles: Succeed

  • Stockholm: Conform

  • Rome: Sex

  • The Vatican :Power

  • Chicago: Work

  • Orlando: Fun

The author goes on then to try to define herself with one word. What she ended up deteriming was that you COULD use one word, but that word would change depending on what stage you were at and where you were at physically/emotionally/psychologically, blah blah blah...

So I started thinking about what MY word would be. My first thought was ANNOYING because most days I annoy the hell out of myself and Im sure those around me.

Then I thought maybe PRIDE cause Lord knows Im awfully prideful about most things. (this happens when the world as you see it revolves around you)

I ended up discarding various others as well: , FUN LOVING, CHATTY, CONTROL, MEASURED, JOY,....I realized, I cant actually do it. Not in one word. People are too multi-dimensional to get it in just word. I actually found just lots of adjectives that described different aspects of my personality...both good and bad. So maybe that is my word:MULTI-DIMENSIONAL....

Of course we could just go with FABULOUS and call it a day.

What's your word?
