Inside or Outside OR just insideout?

I was talking with Bradford today about his camping trip. I love working with him. Not only was he in my very first class I ever taught but he brings such a fresh perspective to life. Ive often said to him that he challenges me because of the way he processes things...its so different from mine because of his age and also his experience. I enjoy how his faith looks so different than mine and yet is still the same in its intent.

All that aside, I loved hearing his adventures and marveled at why anyone would camp!

I am definately an indoor girl. Not that i dont enjoy the outdoors or nature, but really, Im a lazy inside girl who loves her comforts. Camping just seems like alot of work to me. Believe me I get it completely...the outdoors, the rigors of "roughing it", enjoying the lack of electronics and electricity, family time. I get it and apprecaite it, I just dont prefer it.

For our third anniversary E and I went to the Great Smoky Mountains and camped in Great Smoky Mountain National Forest. Camping...as in tent camping. When we pulled into the ranger station to check in after driving all day I inquired about showering facilities only to find out there were none. I should have made him turn the car around right then and there.

The days that ensued were, looking back, quite comical, but felt, at the time, quite traumatic.

First night: I cried because I couldnt get comfortable sleeping on the ground and E yelled at me to stop tossing and turning.

Middle of the night: I had to pee and I was NOT about to walk alone to the facilities so I peed outside...in the dark...in nature...by myself...with WILDLIFE around...

Next day: I stared at my husband like he was a freak as he boiled water for me so that I could wash my hair. I kept thinking....THIS WOULD NOT BE HAPPENING IF WE WERE AT THE RITZ CARLTON!!!!

The following day: Carrying my razor (to shave my legs cause you know how important that is while camping!!) and sun ripened raspberry shower gel we went to the river to "bathe". Of course I fell in and was swooshed down by the fast flowing current screaming the whole way.

Later that day we climbed the chimney tops and an old woman shamed me into climbing the last 50 yards which was rock face. I cried the whole time while climbing because I was so scared.

Mercifully, my husband checked us into a hotel for the last three nights. I remember taking a hot shower and sleeping on the bed thinking that I had come to heaven on earth.
yeah...not so much an outdoor girl. E wants to take the girl camping and Im all for it. I recommended that they camp at Wekiva and I go for the day and the night but go home to sleep and shower. Now THAT is the perfect kind of camping for an indoor girl!

Patti,
That was funny. I can see Eric trying to get you 'into' the joys of camping. You can't make 'smores' at the Ritz you know. You did pass one important milestone of camping ~ in the woods, at night, the world is your urinal.

Your adventure would make a great movie!

hahahahahaha! I soooo get where you are coming from. My idea of camping is Holiday Inn. I'm a 4 star minimum girl myself.

Remind me to tell you my 27th anniversary gift story. I'd blog about it, but wish not to hurt my sweet hubby's feelings too much. HYSTERICAL STORY!!!

Ok, we did the pop-up trailer in someone's driveway for THREE months in PA with 4 children and it was March mind you and the people's dog who's house we were parked at had fleas and got into the camper. I worked in a grocery store meat department (50 degrees) got up everyday, went out to turn on the propane tank to heat the water to wash with only to go to work and be frozen for 8 hours. I told Nick NEVER will we EVER camp again. We did have a sign on the door - if the trailers rockin, don't bother knockin :)

when he takes her camping (with Michael and my kids too), you and I can just go see a movie afterwards LOL and then head home to our warm beds ;)
