Daphne

Why is it that Halloween seems to give people a liscence to dress up like skanks?

UGH!! Ive been trying to find a costume for the girl. If I was a good and creative mother I would make her one but alas, I have no sewing machine, little time, and absolutely no desire to create one. I used to be very good at making costumes, even without sewing....you take some tulle, you take a glue gun, some sequins, some faux fur...viola, you have an Indian Princecess, a ballerina, a fancy ghost....

Not so much this year.

So I figured, Im ahead of the game... we could look online.

I checked out http://www.buycostumes.com/ . Now to start off we have a size issues... my child is rather taller than the average third grader. Not a problem...so we go to the teen section. OH MY LANDS!! Who in their right minds would by their teenager a skanky costume like the ones that Im seeing all over the page?!? Sexy witch, Sexy pirate, Sexy bat, Sexy nurse, Sexy school girl, Sexy vampire, Sexy rock, Sexy tire, Sexy pencil...not really, but SHEESH...I literally could not find a single appropraite costume in the teen section for the girl! It made me irritated first and then sad.

Halloween used to be just about dressing up funny. I can remember as a child being everything from a cat to a witch to a ghost to a hobo to a geisha to whatever...and we just made it with whatever was around the house. Nothing sexy at all!!

After much searching we settled on a fun costume: Daphne from Scooby Doo.

(Still has too short of a skirt for my liking but knowing the girl, she will wear either tights or soffee shorts under it....and who runs around solving mysteries in white go-go boots???) The huge selling point was the orange wig.

Pictures to follow in the weeks to come.

oh yeah... halloween costumes... I guess I should get busy and help Marla decide on what to wear... sigh... more things to do... :)

I once had a friend who dressed as static cling for a halloween costume. He wore all black and pinned socks, hankies, and dryer sheets to his clothes. It was hysterical.
