Birthday Weekend!!

Our main event this weekend was the girl's BIRTHDAY BONANZA!! You know, you dont turn 10 every year! Her actual birthday isnt until Tuesday, but we do the 'friend party' the weekend previous. Her choices this year were to have a big party with lots of people doing one thing or to have a smaller party and do several things. She opted for the latter.

A dear friend of mine advocates the high celebration of decade changes. She reminded me that they are significant...a way to mark a large amount of time. And so this year was a big one.

We started out seeing the movie Enchanted, which was sweet and had a high appeal quality to 10 year old girls. From there we went to RDV sportsplex for ice skating. Eric even skated with them which was precious! Then we went to the park at the front of our development for cake and presents and then to Kobe Steak House for dinner. After that she was able to spend some one on one time with her dear friend from out of town (whom she has known since she was 2)

I kept waiting for the meltdowns but noneoccured...I believe this is in part due to the nature of the girls' that were with us, but also with their age...they are getting old enough to cope and deal with a variety of activities and a certain amount of managed chaos.

Sweet moments from the day:
  • Listening to them giggle and nibble popcorn during the movie.

  • Seeing them captured by the magical story on the screen

  • Hearing their conversation in the car...it ranged from silly to gossipy to cheerleadery to sincere

  • Watching E and the girl skate hand in hand

  • Putting the candles on her cake remembering her at each year

  • When a ladybug flew onto the birthday table at the park

  • Listening to each of the girls tell my girl one thing they really liked about her

  • The girl being gracious to her guests

  • Watching their faces at Kobe

  • Seeing her and her friend in matching pajammies later that day

It's easy to see how much you love her! Congratulations on 10 years as a family. The pictures are sweet.
