There's been some changes at our house this year in terms of cats.
As you know, this summer we fostered a litter of three kittens. With them and our own three we had six felines in the house. Uh...yeah, even me, who loves cats was like...."How did that happen?" and "Dang that is alot of litter boxes to clean daily!"
Of course our dear Dexter had to be put down earlier this year. That was definately a huge sadness for our family. I still miss him and sometimes even think that it will be him loping in through the cat door.
Then there were Five.
Lucy and Cleo, the two female kittens from the litter we hosted this summer were adopted.
Then there were Three.
Spooky, who was old but only our for less than a year, had to be put down recently as well. I made E do this one, but it was not as difficult as Dexter because we had not had him as long. Additionally, we knew that Spooky too was sick and so it was humane to put him down.
Then there were Two.
In the past month George W, good will ambassator to the neighborhood, had a bowel obstruction. Through several visits to the vet, some procedures and expensive medicine, he was on the road to recovery.
And then he just disappeared...literally went outside and did not return in the evening. Of course, after several days, we believed that he had done what cats do when they are sick...go off and die. However, we also made two trips to Animal Control and put of signs and such in the neighborhood. He was no where to be found. We had the face the fact that our sweet little George W, most well natured cat in the world was gone.
But then on Wednesday Michael and the kids knocked on our door in the morning and there Michael was, holding our sweet Georgie!!
After a throughall examiniation, it was clear that George had found someone to feed him. I was so glad to know that he was okay, and after spending a miserable few hours cooped up he went outside about mid morning for a "prowl-a-round". Hes been back, but he is definately NOT interested in being inside anymore. E says that he either got wind of us putting Spooky down or that he is still irritated about the "medical procedures" that he had to have while at the doctor. We shall see how this pans out.
And then there was one.
We havent had just one cat in the house for 15 years. Michael Jaspar Rowe Shivers (Mike Rowe) remains and is loving being the only cat. He is a lover...E calls him Wilber as in Wilber from Charlotte's Web because he purrs so much (on the intake and outtake of his breathing) that is sounds like a little piggy grunting. He is a sweetie. He certainly has grown!!!
Brand new to the Shivers' house
