Okay, Im going to admit it...
I watched alot of VH1 this weekend. They had this awesome series running all weekend: 80 hours of the 80's.
It was every 80's MTV junkie's dream come true!
We DVR-ed the whole 80 hours. Im laughing cause we are SUCH nerds. The great thing about DVR is that you can literally fast forward through everything and just stop at what you want to watch...very helpful rather than watching the entire 80 hours straight!
E and I have quite different tastes in music. As Ive said before music is not necessarily something that I am passionate about. I love music, Im just not one of those people who is up on every song or knows about the latest trends etc. I dont even have an IPOD. (Ill pause while those of you who cant live without an IPOD suck all the air out of the room as you gasp!!) E loves the early 80's music...new wave, punk, and of course classic rock. I didnt really get into music at all until college, so for me it was more late 80's: hair bands, and more pop stuff.
During the 80's I will admit to being glued to MTV for hours on end. MTV was new back then and actually ran videos full time for the most part. I can remember waiting....waiting...waiting...to catch the perfect video that was the red hot one right then Oh my it was obsessive. (No wonder we were glued, there were no DVRs!) I babysat alot in college for families with lots of money and believe me when I say MTV was on constantly.
The videos this weekend have been arranged alphabetically. Sadly, I missed Aerosmith, Bobby Brown, Bon Jovi...not realizeing that this show existed until about the C's. (Eric Clapton, Phil Collins)
Somehow I missed part of the D's and didnt get to see Def Leppard, (LOVE LOVE LOVED them) but caught Debbie Gibson (talk about your BUBBLE GUM MUSIC!!)
Especially fun were the J's: Janet Jackson (Rhythm Nation and NASTY!), Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (I love Rock and Roll) Michael Jackson (The Way You Make Me Feel and Beat it) followed by the L's: Kenny Loggins (Highway to the Danger Zone---remember from Top Gun?!?!)
My favorite though had to be the M's with Madonna, George Michael, John Cougar Mellencamp, Mr. Mister, Milli Vanilli, Mike and the Mechanics (hahahahahah!) and Metallica. It was a virtual schmorgashborg of different music genres.
When we were watching the three featured George Michael videos (Faith, I Want Your Sex, and Freedom) E says to me, "How could you not know that he was gay?!" (he wasnt officially out back then) To which I replied, "Have you SEEN him?????...the man was a pop GOD in the 80's. His butt alone sold more music to teen girls than you could count! In addition to attending his concert, we had a life size model of him in our college suite....in TWO DIFFERENT PLACES!!!) Oh yes...he was all that.
The P's were fun for the two Roberts: Plant and Palmer. (Did EVERY video of Robert Palmer feature women in short skirts, slicked back hair pretending to play guitars? The newer the video, the more women) Also enjoyable was watching Sting in the Police.
Ive only watched up to the S's but I cant wait to see the rest to come: Rod Steward, Tony! Toni! Tone!,Tone-Loc, U-2, Van Halen, Vanilla Ice, and let us not forget White Snake
