Books

Ove the past week I think I have baked the entire muffin line that Betty Crocker has to offer in addition to brownies and a cake. Cooking I do not enjoy, but baking...yummy! (probably because when I cook you take your chances with it actually not being edible, but with baking, unless its burnt, you can usually enjoy it)

Ive been reading alot again. Its nice to have the time and I realize I wont have it for long.

To keep up with the times, ie read what the kids are reading, Ive been working my way through Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series. Its interesting...long. I finished book three, Eclipse, this weekend and since Ive committed at this point I know I need to finish with the fourth one. Lovely Jessie the Junior from next door is loaning them to me book by book...love that girl!

Ive also been reading some books on adoption, a biography of Queen Victoria and also How To Talk to Your Child about Sex. (um yeah...we are not doing that any time in the next two months) I wasnt crazy about any of the adoption books from the library. The first one I started reading began with..."Adoption is all about loss..." After the first 6 pages that one went into the "go back to the library" pile. Ive had much more success from listening to people who either have been adopted or who have adopted. That's been actualy much more helpful and Ive come to be able to ascertain that indeed adoption is NOT "all about loss"

Queen Victoria biography...very interesting. Amazing woman for her time. More on that later.

Katie also lent me a book titled Death in the Grand Canyon, which is...you guessed it...about all th known deaths in the Grand Canyon that have been recorded. A bit macabe, but fascinating.

Finally, I read about half of The Road to Lost Innocence last night. it was recommended on Amy's blog and she says it best. Overwhelmingly dark. I havent gotten to the part where she overcomes, but so far....wow...

Im waiting for that amazing book to come my way...the one I cant put down. Its been about a year since Ive gotten one of those..and it will probably be a year until I can read one again!

I just finished Cataloochee about people living in what became part of the Great Smokey Mountain Park. Very good read; I'll pass it along. And I just started Churched, a "humorous memoir" about growing up in a fundamentalist Baptist church--you know, Barbie burning, no pants for women, that kind.
