French Toast, Baby, School and The Girl

I made the BEST, i mean THE BEST french toast in the world the other day! The girl and I had caught Good Eats on television a bit ago and the guy was making french toast and literally, my mouth was watering! We decided we HAD to try it out.

First thing you have to do is let the bread sit out overnight so it gets a little stale. We got a loaf of Challah bread which is DIVINE to begin with. Next you cut it into about 3/4 inch slices. In a bowl you mix half and half with about 4 - 6 eggs depending on how custardy you like your french toast. Add some vanilla and some cinnamon and wisk it up.

Here's the interesting part. He said you need to allow the bread to soak in the mixture for 30 seconds on each side...which is why you need to use stale bread so that it doesnt disintegrate. They your actually supposed to let the bread sit for a minute on a cooling rack with a paper towel under it to fully absorb everything.

Finally, you cook it up...using REAL BUTTER of course. Its amazing how incredible food is when you actually use real food instead of "imitation" or "diet" or "low fat" or "substitute". After youre done browning the sides, lie the bread on a cookie sheet and put it in a 350 degree oven for about 7 minutes.

OH
MY
LANDS!!!

Its like a plate full of heaven with real maple syrup on it. YUMMO!! We actually had it for dinner one night this week!

In other news...
The baby is still cooking.
Is there anything else going on?

Yesterday I was talking to someone and they were staring at me like I was an alien and I realized that I was making no sense. Then I put two receipts in the refrigerator. Today I needed gas and I ended up at the pool store. Can you say pre-occupied. E and I have said we are very fortunate though because at least its a good waiting...I mean we could be waiting for a diagnosis on a serious disease, or for word on a family member fighting overseas. At least we know this will have an end.

School has been settling in nicely. Our new building has solved so many problems that is a blessing. Somehow its given the educational goals of our school some real teeth and even more validity then before. Its a good change.

The girl is away again tonite with friends. I miss her when she is gone.
I wonder when that stops? Marcie and Katie and Jeannie, maybe you can speak to that....does it even stop when they go off to college? Its completely not her because she is fine sleeping over and spending time away from us, I just worry and wonder what she is doing and if she is okay and having fun...probably way way too much. She is getting older. Im surprised at the grumpiness has been prevalent this fall so far. I know its pre-adolescence, but WOW! Yesterday the phrase of the day was, "You may NOT use that tone sweet girl..." Oh my...

I love watching Good Eats. He's funny and he uses Publix stuff. Yum, we haven't had French toast in a while. I may have to follow your recipe this weekend.

It will never end, Patti. No matter where she goes or what she does, you will always miss her. She's the best part of you. :) (I'm not Marcie, Katie, or Jeannie, but I thought I'd speak to it anyway.) Sam moved out a few weeks ago and I'm soooooooooo missing him. He, however, is not missing me in the least. :)

Praying for you.

Missing them doesn't stop, but it is ok when they are doing well and happy. Plus with cell phones, ichat and facebook keeping in touch is easier and more frequent than it was in our college years.

I also find having the younger one at home REALLY helps. It's kind of like E never really grew up and left, as M is just like him! Not only that, I can be in total denial about the fact that I am actually old enough to have kids in college when I'm doing the fun 1st grade stuff again.

That french toast sounds wonderful, I don't even want to think about how much cholesterol might be in it though.

Oh, and I cracked up picturing you at the pool store wanting gas---though here in the Nashville area, you'd probably have better luck finding gas at a pool store!! lol
