The girl had a total meltdown today.
At 9 years of age it can go either way at this point....I can attribute it to the onset of pending hormones OR I can go with the "she is still immature" route.
Third option: Realize that she is just sinful and bratty like everyone is.
Actually this was not a bratty meltdown. It was more of the brokenhearted-over-something-and-couldnt-get-over-it kind. I had been given a cool paper cube from a student...you know the cube that sits on your desk and you jot various notes down on. it You keep it on your desk...it can have cute things like kitties or puppies or nice Christianese sayings on the side of it. This one was pink with a high heel motive. Any girl's dream paper cube really. So I told her she could have it if she wanted to. She was so excited and went to pick it up and the thing split in half.
WWWWAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhh!!!!
Oh my lands you would have thought that her dog had died.
So I do all the right parenting things...tell her Im sorry...that i know it stinks...that its still usable...give her a hug. But the girl could NOT get over it. She carried on for at least 25 minutes and ended up getting sent to her room because she wouldnt let it go and I couldnt take the carrying on anymore.
What is this phenomenon? Is this the beginning of the teenage years? If it is all I have to say is...DAMNnnnnnnnnn its gonna be one interesting ride!!!
