Beach Bums

Wednesday we went out to New Smeryna to spend the day with the Wards. I love these people...no, I TRIPLE love them!!! Any time spent with Taylor and Sally will be fun...you could be breaking up rocks and it would be fabulous!!

The waves were great for boogie boarding when we got out there and kids wanted to swim out to a sand bar a bit off the beach. The waves were better out there even though it was a bit of a swim. Sasa and I didnt feel especially comfortable with them out there without us so being the contentious moms that we are, we decided to join them. Taylor, being the contientious dad he is, was reading a book on child rearing under the beach awning.

We swam the gap and made it out the the sand bar where the water was about waist deep on us. Because the waves were close together Sally gave them the talk of what to do if you get caught in a rip tide. (swim parallel to the beach) and I ended it with "And if a shark bites you just punch it between the eyes and it will let go!"

Literally 10 minutes later I turned around to face the incoming waves and saw a shark!! It was about a yard and half away from me!! Its main fin was sticking up and I could see the smaller fin at the back of it as well. I could NOT believe it! I was thinking in my head..."Youve got to be kidding me!!!"

So I screamed for Sally and she turned around and saw the shark too (she says it was about 5 feet...but Im thinking more like 4). We yelled for the kids to swim toward the shore quickly and immediately started swimming in ourselves. The kids were all like..."What?? We just got out there....WHY???" and Sally said, "SHARK!!!" Dang they moved it like anything then!!!

When we got to shore and Sally and I looked at each other like..."Did that actually happen?!?!"

Well that certainly got our hearts going!!

Taylor claims that it was a dolphin, but I think it was a shark..dolphins dont scare people like that do they???

Err, of course, there was a dophin (actual a pod of 3) in the area at that time, literally in the same place, but if Patti says it was a shark, given her degree in oceanography and having seen Shark Tale 3 times, who am I to argue.
