Significance and Truth

So I have been thinking about protection the past few days...what it means to be protected by the Great Protector of our souls. I think that reading Harry Potter reminds me of what is actually going on around usl

You know...I forget that every day we are in a battle of good verses evil...how much Satan wants us to believe the lies that the world offers us and how we take readily...believe it far too easily. My own areas of unbelief are Im sure similar to most peoples. While I dont suffer from low self esteem in a huge way anymore I still have some of those "old recordings" of lies that I have lived with at various times in my life:

"You are not good enough unless you work more...unless you can show something for each day"

"Make it look perfect and it will be perfect"

"Please everyone else because then they will like you and you will feel good and significant"

"Comfort is the ultimate goal"

All of the above themes are not bad in and of themselves. What makes it a lie is when I base my whole being on it...when I realize that Im living my life in such a way to make those things true...when I am grasping what is not truth, but what appears to answer my heart question: What gives me worth? Why am I worthy? What is my puropse here?

I love that the Heidelberg Catechism gives us a straightforward answer. We had to memorize it as juniors and seniors in highschool for Catechism class at church:

Q: "What is the chief end of man?"

A: " To know God and to praise him forever."

Q: "What is your only comfort in life and in death?"

A: "That I am not my own, but belong, body and soul, to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ..."

And THAT is the truth!!!

AMEN! So simple, so true. How quick are we to forget it as we rush through our lives reaching out to all manner of 'things' looking for the love, protection, acceptence that is already there for the taking.
