First Day Back

The students arrived today and while we worked yesterday, it always lacks a certain excitement without the students there.

It was a blissfully quiet day. I was reflecting on my students and commenting to them on how the time away from each other always does us good. They come back rested, refreshed, able to focus and not stressed. They are settled. Its different from the beginnning of the year when so much is unknown. At this point they already know the routine which is comforting...the familier.

The seniors are ready to pull away. Its sort of a feeling you get from them...its time for them to leave soon. This group, with a few exceptions, is ready and will be greatly missed. While talking with Pete today we were commenting on how it IS sad to see a group leave, but that there is always another group coming up and that they will also have interesting students to get to know.

I realize I talk alot about my job and teaching. I love it. Its a blessing to love what you do. I know many dont ever get to have that feeling. Im blessed that way. I knew from the time I was in third grade that I wanted to teach. My teacher was Mrs. Plaisure and I just LOVED her. Seriously, that is when I knew and apart from a few side tracks (I wanted to be a lawyer at one point because I loved what they wore, I wanted to be a sea world trainer because the boys that worked there were blonde, and I wanted to be a medical illustrator because I loved Anatomy and Art.) I realize that I always had my sights set on that.
