Several of my friends (Amy, Kathy) are amazing cooks. Amy is like Martha Steward in the making...its like she never just makes lunch...its always an amazing lunch with a pretty presentation and just yummy!! Kathy, well, she cooks with real food. Enough said.
Meanwhile, across town, Im lucky to get food on actual plates for dinner. I say that i dont really cook, I "unwrap". Recently I actually put a box of cereal on the table with three bowls and three spoons and the gallon of milk...VOILA...DINNER!!!
Its not that I CANT cook, but I do not enjoy it. Factor in my return to work and the small amount of time I have to actually get dinner on the table (I mean, really the LAST thing I want to do upon arriving home at 4pm is to stand in the kitchen and whip up a meal.), and its a rare thing to get a homecooked meal in my house on a regular basis. I do utilize my crockpot a good bit but even that has its hazards (note to self: Pasta does not really work in the crock pot!) This, I realize, is not the way of the Dutch as I come from a long line of good cooks and bakers.
My friend Diane loves to site the story of how I made homemade pizza one night when we were single...I used a Boboli crust, tomato paste and a cut up slim jim.
Or the time I made tacos for us all and didnt really realize that you had to put a taco seasoning packet in with the meat, which should, mind you, be ground beef and not ground turkey.
To date, Ive only had three fires in my kitchens and none of them have done permanent damage...that I know of.
What, you may ask, sparked this blog? Well...I made a pumpkin pie tonight. Not only did I not put eggs in but I put in the wrong type of milk. Who knew there is a difference between sweetened evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milk?

Oh you really make me laugh! Right there with ya sister ;) lol
oh, its cracking me up... too funny.
Oh my word! Hilarious! I guess you only make that mistake once. Next lunch, I'll handle the dessert.
Your pie sounds good actually. I had a pastors wife who insisted you MUST leave the sugar out of all recipes, including pumpkin pie. It was hideous. We choked it down and laughed on the way home. Nice effort to save our waist lines but never forgot that one. Don't feel bad, I had dinner (with dessert) on the table by 5 every night when the kids were little, now, the kids say, wow mom, good we are having company, you cooked! I have determined, if I had the money, we would eat at Big Daddy's every night. Wings and salad. EVERY NIGHT. Bren
